HOW TO WRITE A STELLAR PRESS RELEASE

HAILEY, Idaho - September 26, 2018 - Press releases are important for any official information sharing with media publications. Marketing companies and PR firms are hired to do these things for you but here’s secret to formatting your own.

These are the TOP 5 THINGS you should be aware of when writing a stellar press release.

  1. What’s the big deal?

You got something to say, so say it! Headlines and Ledes and extremely important. Let’s say Microsoft released a new software that reads your fingerprints to open the laptop.

You could write:

Headline: MICROSOFT RELEASES NEW TECHNOLOGY

BOSTON, Massachusetts -  Microsoft’s team is making big moves to improve technology these days.

----------->  Lacking details and specifics.

Or you could hook ‘em like a fisherman:

Headline: MICROSOFT LAUNCHES FINGERPRINT SECURITY ON 2019 MODELS

BOSTON, Massachusetts - JAN 01, 2019 - Microsoft released cutting edge technology today, which reads your fingerprint with an electronic scanner sleekly placed on the side of the laptop.

------------> Interesting... tell me more!

2. How is the big deal happening?

The first paragraph following the Dateline (city where the news is originating and the date of release) should release all imperative information including the who, what, when, where and why questions. GIVE THEM THE FACTS STRAIGHT OUTTA THE GATE.

3. What’s the background of the big deal?

Know the game before you play. Get supporting quotes, relevant background information, statistics and any necessary Call(s) to Action (Download, Purchase, Learn More...)

4. Who is writing about the big deal?

A Boilerplate is short paragraph after your stellar 400-500 word press release is written that gives information about the issuing company or organization. *Make sure to include this.

5.Make it easy for the reader to understand the big deal.

Make it worth the readers time and effort to actually PRINT what you’re wanting them to print about.

*What makes your story outstanding?

*Even if it’s an event that happens yearly, what’s new and exciting for this year’s event?

*Does your press release include a quote from a well-known individual on the subject matter?
